Raising price for a pack of cigarettes by 1 yuan could save a million lives: Tobacco Control Office official

On August 1, while attending a conference in Hangzhou for the development of tobacco control capabilities at medical schools nationwide, Jiang Yuan, vice director of the Tobacco Control Office under the China Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), expressed his frustration regarding the current state of tobacco control, calling for a tax hike on all tobacco products produced and sold domestically: 'Raising the price for a pack of cigarettes by 1 yuan could save as many as 3 million lives.'
