Date:2015-04-08 10:03

Recently, Center for Tobacco Control Research published an original article titled “The impact of regional economic reliance on the tobacco industry on current smoking in China” on Health & Place. This research paper highlights that 1) The study is the first in China to examine the relationship between regional economic reliance on both tobacco cultivation and cigarette manufacturing and smoking rates; 2) The study underlines the importance of provincial differences in cigarette prices, anti-smoking policies, tobacco industry practices and cultural norms upon smoking; 3) Based upon the findings the paper suggests that future research should pay more attention to the provincial government level and the vested interests of different stakeholders in maintaining high levels of cigarette consumption.

Additionally, another research paper titled “Socioeconomic inequalities and mental stress in individual and regional level: a twenty one cities study in China” was also published on International Journal for Equity in Health in March 2015 by Center for Tobacco Control Research. This paper was marked as “Highly accessed” article by BioMed Central.
